Guide
AK44 Baccarat Commission on the Banker Bet
Quick Summary
- The drawing rules let Banker edge out Player over many rounds.
- Tables balance that with a commission, traditionally 5% of Banker wins.
- No-commission tables instead pay less on one specific Banker win.
- Even after commission, Banker usually has the lowest house edge on the table.
Every baccarat player meets the commission sooner or later: you win on Banker, and the payout is a little less than your stake. That cut is not a fee for using the table. It exists because Banker wins more often than Player, and without it the bet would favour you. This guide explains where the Banker edge comes from, how standard commission and no-commission tables differ, and what that means for your choice of bet. It builds on our baccarat rules checklist.
Before you start: why Banker wins more
In baccarat, Player acts first. Banker then draws or stands according to rules that take Player's third card into account. That small information advantage means Banker wins slightly more rounds than Player over time.
Ignoring ties, Banker wins a little over half of decided rounds and Player a little under half. At even money, that would hand the player an edge on Banker, so tables adjust the payout.
- Banker wins: roughly 45.9% of all rounds.
- Player wins: roughly 44.6% of all rounds.
- Ties: roughly 9.5% of all rounds.
How a 5% commission works
On a standard table, a winning Banker bet pays even money minus 5% of the win. A ৳1,000 Banker win pays ৳950 profit. Player wins pay the full ৳1,000.
Some tables track commission in a box and collect it later; most live tables simply deduct it from each payout. The result is the same either way.
| Bet | Payout on ৳1,000 win | Approximate house edge |
|---|---|---|
| Banker (5% commission) | ৳950 profit | About 1.06% |
| Player | ৳1,000 profit | About 1.24% |
| Tie at 8 to 1 | ৳8,000 profit | About 14.4% |
| Tie at 9 to 1 | ৳9,000 profit | About 4.8% |
No-commission tables
No-commission baccarat removes the 5% cut on most Banker wins. To keep its edge, the table pays less when Banker wins with a specific total, most often a total of six, where the Banker bet may pay half.
The result is a Banker edge slightly higher than on a commission table, though very close. Read the table rules to see which total triggers the reduced payout and what it pays.
- Most Banker wins pay full even money.
- One specific Banker total pays a reduced amount.
- Edge is slightly higher than a standard commission table.
- Rules vary; always check the help screen.
Which bet costs least
On the standard figures, Banker with a 5% commission has the lowest house edge, followed closely by Player. Tie has a much higher edge on most tables. Side bets vary widely.
The difference between Banker and Player is small. Over a short session, results are dominated by luck rather than by the choice of side. Pick whichever you prefer, avoid the Tie as a regular bet, and keep stakes fixed.
Watch out: commission and streak betting
Some players switch sides to 'follow the shoe' on the road map. Every round is independent, so switching does not change your odds, and on a commission table it does not avoid the commission either.

Common questions
Why is there a commission on Banker in baccarat?
The drawing rules let Banker edge out Player over many rounds. Without a commission, the Banker bet would favour the player. The 5% commission restores a small house edge.
How much is the Banker commission?
Traditionally 5% of each winning Banker bet. A ৳1,000 win pays ৳950 profit. Some tables use a different method, such as no-commission rules, so check the table you join.
Is no-commission baccarat better?
It feels better because most Banker wins pay in full. However, one Banker total pays less, and the overall edge is usually slightly higher than a standard commission table. The difference is small.
Is Banker always the best bet?
On standard rules, Banker has the lowest house edge, with Player close behind. Over a short session, luck matters far more than the small gap. Avoid the Tie as a regular bet because its edge is much higher.
Can I avoid commission by switching sides?
No. Commission applies to every winning Banker bet, and switching sides does not change the odds of any round. Pick a side you are comfortable with and keep stakes fixed.
